About Me
Jill Terhune, Ed.S., LPC
I am licensed professional clinical counselor with a graduate degree in clinical mental health, but my career in mental health really started when I became a case manager for children after college. There I learned that there were no bad children, just bad systems and most mental health challenges can be traced back to adverse life experiences.
I fell in love with working with survivors of trauma at the local sexual assault centers and domestic violence shelters near my hometown in Kentucky. There I learned the power of experiential therapy and how it helps process traumatic experiences to a place of healing. Since then in private practice and at retreat centers I have come to understand trauma as being on a continuum of little T traumas, like humiliation in a school play, to big T traumas, like sexual assault or war, and that trauma is really anything that is less than a life affirming experience. I have also come to understand how the quality of our relationships is the biggest predictor of overall health.
I am passionate about creating a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ community and know how hard it can be to be apart of a marginalized group.
In my free time you can find me with my husband, daughter, family and friends, hiking, doing yoga, rock climbing, playing video games, or geeking out over Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

You are worth taking care of
It is my personal belief that everyone can benefit from therapy. You do not have to wait until you have hit rock bottom to reach out. If you have hit rock bottom, however, it is from that valley that you can see both sides more clearly. Taking care of your mental health has a positive ripple effect to everything and everyone else around you. If you are brave enough to start you are strong enough to finish.
